How To Do Natural-Looking Pinup Makeup
The thing I love about makeup is that it just highlights what's there. Your face is your face--unless you do surgery, you can't change its physicality. But with makeup you can fill in or highlight or contour or color to enhance what you like and mute what's not your favorite thing.
My Natural Looking Pinup Makeup for This Before and After
I was on vacation for Mardi Gras in NOLA, visiting my mom, so I had time do really do it up, but I didn't want to go over-the-top. The holiday was over, and we were going to a very nice restaurant. I felt like having very nice, but not costume-y, pinup makeup. I don't usually wear a base or primer or anything like that for every day makeup. Usually I just use Everyday Shea Lavender Lotion from Whole Foods then apply the rest. For this I did primer (Almay Color Match?). Then highlighted above and below my lip, on my brow, & my inner and outer corner. I used concealer on my freckly sun spots and under eye and blended really well.
"Natural" Pinup Eye Makeup Using Neutrals
I took a really steady hand to my eyebrows, first with a brown eyebrow liner then going over that in a red lip liner used as brow liner and blending, which is a great custom blend for redheads.
I used a shimmery slightly bright pink eye shadow on my lids, dark brown in the creases, then a slightly shimmery white eye shadow all over, especially in the inner creases and just below the brow to blend everything in on my eye.
I used a dark brown liner on my upper and lower lids and blended that with a bit of brown shadow on the brush. Then I applied black liner along the upper lid. I didn't do much of a cat eye effect because my spring allergies were really getting to me. My eyes water like crazy and I didn't want them to tear away. (I get them twice: February in New Orleans when I see my mom, then again in May when the same stuff blooms here in Mass!).
I curled my lashes and used black mascara and really did a lot of layers from bottom to top.
Natural Looking Pinup Makeup for Cheeks and Lips
I filled my lips in with the liner and did a little cupid's bow for the top lip then used a darkish red lipstick over the liner. For blush I smiled, then brushed on a pinkish red blush. I did contour under my cheeks bones and highlight with the same white shadow above. Then I blended it all really well with my big brush.
Blend blend blend is the key to having a lot of makeup not look like a crazy lot of make up. And use neutral colors.
